Do you want the perfect Passion Fruit Margarita recipe? Something balanced, refreshing, and not too sweet? This has been my favorite drink since dining at Yunta Peruvian Nikkei in Southend Charlotte. They crafted the most delightful smokey version of this Margarita called the “Peruvian Smoke” and I had to figure out how to recreate it at home. This delightful cocktail will wow your guests and transport them to that restaurant or craft cocktail bar vibe with a finish of Tajin salt rim, fancy ice, an artisanal low ball glass or even served “up” in a beautiful coupe glass for an elevated experience.
Why the Passion Fruit Margarita is the Perfect Choice
If you’re looking for a cocktail that’s refreshing, balanced, and not overly sweet, the Passion Fruit Margarita is the perfect option. This unique twist on a classic margarita offers a delightful mix of tangy passion fruit, tequila or mezcal, and a hint of lime. Whether you’re hosting friends at home or enjoying a quiet evening, this cocktail hits all the right notes.
Passion Fruit Margarita
Ingredients
- 2 oz Tequila or Mezcal Choose a high-quality spirit for the best flavor. I’m loving mezcal right now and my mezcal of choice is 400 Conejos from Mexico.
- 1 oz Passion fruit puree or juice Adds a tropical and tangy twist. I got my passion fruit pulp, El Sembrador, in the frozen Latino foods section of Food Lion and in the frozen fruit area of my local Latin grocer, Compare Foods.
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice (Juice of one lime). Brightens the cocktail and enhances its refreshing quality.
- Tajin & Salt To create a Tajin salt rim! This provides a tangy, slightly spicy kick that elevates each sip. I’ve even collected different salts at El Bazar Sábado in Mexico City.
- Sliced Peppers I love to put sliced jalapeño or serrano pepper in my marg for hit a hint of spice. I’ve also dabbled in creating spicy pepper tinctures.
Instructions
- Prepare your glass: Rim a low-ball glass with a slice of lime, then dip it into Tajin salt for a zesty, spicy coating. If you opt for a coupe glass, you can still salt the rim or leave it be.
- Mix the ingredients: In a shaker, combine 2 oz of tequila or mezcal, 1 oz of passion fruit puree or juice, and 1 oz of fresh lime juice (juice of one lime). If you like your drinks slightly sweeter, this is where you could add a touch of agave to taste.
- Shake with fancy ice: Use larger ice cubes or specially shaped ice for a chic presentation and to keep the drink chilled longer.
- Pour and serve: Strain the mixture into the prepared low-ball glass over fresh fancy ice or put into a beautiful coupe. Garnish with a dehydrated slice of lime or a passion fruit wedge. I find my slices of pepper adorn the drink beautifully every time.
